Wide Push-Ups
What you'll gain
The extra-wide hand set stretches the chest more than a standard floor push-up.
Needs no equipment and shows the hand spacing clearly from the front.
Gives coaching apps a head-on view of elbow path and plank line.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- 1
Set both hands on the floor much wider than the shoulders, fingers forward and slightly out.
- 2
Walk the feet back until the body is a straight line from head to heels on the balls of the feet.
- 3
Lock the elbows at the top and look down so the head stays in line with the spine.
- 4
Lower the chest toward the floor by bending the elbows out about forty-five degrees.
- 5
Pause near the bottom without letting the hips sag or pike.
- 6
Press the floor away until the elbows straighten, then repeat.
Common Mistakes
Flaring the elbows into a T, which dumps load into the shoulder joint.
Letting the hips sag or pike so the plank the chest presses from disappears.
Planting the hands so wide that the chest cannot reach a useful depth.
Craning the neck toward the camera instead of keeping the head in line with the spine.
About This Exercise
Wide push-ups are a floor press with an exaggerated hand set. The hands plant far outside the shoulders, fingers slightly out, and the body stays a rigid plank from head to heels. The wide base stretches the chest at the bottom and reduces how much the triceps can help compared with a standard push-up. Elbows flare around forty-five degrees on the way down rather than locking into a T. The approved still is a low front view of the top position: blank crown of the head toward camera, arms locked, hands very wide, chest red and delts pink. For a catalog this slug is a second camera of the same family as Push-Up Wide, useful when an app needs a head-on demo of the wide hand set.
