Banded Eccentric Tibialis Raise
What you'll gain
Loads the ankle dorsiflexors.
Emphasizes control during the lowering phase.
Provides a seated resistance-band option for shin training.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- 1
Sit on the floor facing a secure low band anchor.
- 2
Loop the band over the top of the working foot and extend that leg.
- 3
Support the heel on the floor and sit far enough back to create light band tension.
- 4
Pull the toes toward the shin while keeping the knee still.
- 5
Let the foot travel forward slowly against the pull of the band.
- 6
Repeat the ankle movement while keeping the heel supported and the band in place.
Common Mistakes
Letting the band pull the foot forward without control.
Lifting the working heel to create extra movement.
Bending the knee instead of moving at the ankle.
Using band tension that prevents a controlled return.
About This Exercise
The banded eccentric tibialis raise trains ankle dorsiflexion with an elastic band anchored in front of the foot. The working leg extends along the floor while the toes pull toward the shin against the band. The foot then returns slowly as the band draws the forefoot away. The controlled lowering phase is the eccentric emphasis: the front-shin muscles resist the return instead of letting the band snap the foot down. Keep the working heel supported and the knee still so the movement stays at the ankle. The other leg can remain bent for a comfortable seated position.
